Strobing and Contouring are still the most important steps towards achieving a trendy Makeup look which I believe are absolutely essential but they need to be customized according to the shape of each face and the skin type.
For example, Contouring cannot be over done if the face is too chubby or if the person needs to step out into daylight, because it can look horrible if it's not done in moderation.
Generally contouring can be done with shades, two or more tones darker then ones own skin tone. But should be blended well.
On the hand , Strobing should be done with shades that are two or more tones lighter than ones own skin tone.
For those with Acne or Acne scars should refrain from using highlighters over such areas.
